Medical Indigent

Formerly the Medically Indigent Assistance Fund (MIAF), created effective January 1, 1986, funded by contributions from county governments and general hospitals to provide medical assistance to citizens who do not qualify for Medicaid, Medicare, or does not have sufficient health insurance coverage and who did not have the means to pay for impatient hospital care.


State Health and Human Services develop uniform criteria and materials for statewide use.

 

County government makes arrangements for determination of eligibility for its residents.

 

Hospitals inform patients who have no means to pay for inpatient hospital services about the MIAP program.

 

In 2015, the Medically Indigent Assistance Program served 279 clients in Florence County.
